Courtesy of  http://www.tutiempo.net/ we bring a new service: local weather. In the left panel of this blog. Just below the Google Maps window, there is this box: In it, you will find the local weather conditions of my home city Maracaibo. It updates every 20 Minutes. In the near future we will include the ability to choose the city of Venezuela you are interested in to see its current weather. ---------- Update 2025: Now I plan to bring similar service but localised to Swansea, Wales where I live.

HAMSPHERE... a virtual world for amateur radio

Image
Hi colleagues... definitely amateur radio has a bit of everything. From the creator of  DXtuners, Kelly Lindman, comes a new resource for those of us who like to experiment, share experiences and above all try and try: HAMSPHERE or in Spanish "Radioesfera" which is nothing more than a simulation of the radio in our ionosphere. Its creator says that it behaves just like real radio but without wasting a milliwatt on the air. SSB, CW and all modes in the 10 to 160 meter bands. Didn't know how a real DX works... well check it out there virtually. http://www.hamsphere.com/ Enjoy it and let me know what you think. ------------------------------------- Update 2025: DXtuners is now defunct and HamSphere keeps going strong. (They did expired my account and now I would have to pay in order to enjoy, so is no-go for now

New section: 'Radio Buddies'

Image
This month marks the beginning of a new section in this blog that we hope will be permanent: THE BUDDIES. In every group, fraternity, tribe, gang or human group there are people with something in common, in our case the passion for radio. Passion sometimes burning, sometimes dormant, experienced, novice, crazy, abundant in resources, scarce and "pelabolic" (penniless)... in many different flavours. This section will periodically bring a ‘Who's Who’ review, where I will introduce my colleagues and friends in radio. Why is it called Los Socios? Well, although the origin is a bit obscure (so as not to get into paternity disputes...heh, heh) it is the term used by our group of radio friends to call each other "Epa socio...Que es de tu vida? !" (What's up buddy) is the common phrase in our rounds and conversations. From this month... we will all have a part in this space...wait your turn! ------------------------------------------------- Update June 2025 : Sadly ...

It was on January 15, 2005 when I received a voice message on my phone: ... ‘Epa socio ya caminĂ³ la cosa’ - "Hey buddy things are running up"-.     It was our friend Heber, YV1AHP , informing that after several months of testing and trying out different devices and configurations, the first VoIP link in Maracaibo, Venezuela was formally installed. Three years of service for all the radio amateurs of this city...CONGRATULATIONS.... Update: As June 2025, this node has accomplished 20 continuous and uninterrupted years of service! such a feat and well deserved CONGRATULATIONS! Following this node, YV1AHP, set-up the first and still only Venezuelan Echolink Conference YV-Net
